The 2025 Premier Lacrosse League season continues in Charlotte, NC. We kick off Week 2 with a doubleheader on Friday night and I have several betting angles for both games. Let’s take a look at my best bets for this weekend.

Denver and Carolina face off to start Week 2 with both teams seeking their first win of the season. While Denver’s defense struggled against the new-look California offense last week, I expect a better showing on Friday. Meanwhile, Carolina’s defense appeared to be in peak form. I’m not expecting another 10-4 finish like last year, but wouldn’t be surprised if either one or both teams finish in the single digits. Even at this lower total, I recommend betting this game to stay Under 22.5 at -115 on Caesars or DraftKings.
I’m also betting this game to stay Under 1.5 Two-Point Goals at -130 on FanDuel or DraftKings. While Denver likes to shoot from beyond the arc, Sam Handley is out of the lineup and Blaze Riorden defends the two-point shot well. Carolina has some rangey shooters, but didn’t show much desire to shoot the deep ball, opting for a ton of looks around the crease.
I’m also targeting a handful of player props in this game. I’m excited for Jared Bernhardt’s PLL debut and don’t think it will take him too long to adjust to the pro game, but I’m not ready to bet currency on him just yet. The market seems just as uncertain as I am, with DraftKings setting his points prop at 2.5 and FanDuel setting his points prop at 1.5.
Instead, I’m targeting a more reliable player prop and betting Blaze Riorden Over 12.5 Saves at -114 on FanDuel. Riorden has only gone over this mark in four of his last 11 games, but he came close with 12 saves last Friday and I expect a high shot volume from his Outlaws offense. If you look at his six seasons in the PLL, Riorden has had 12+ saves in 75.38% (49 of 65) of his games and has averaged 14.69 saves per game. The Outlaws had the second-highest amount of shots per game in Week 1 and were third-highest in shots last season. I expect them to be able to get shots on cage on Friday night, but trust Riroden to make enough saves to go over his saves prop.
I’m also betting Josh Zawada Over 2.5 Points at +144 on FanDuel. Carolina’s offense mostly flowed through Zawada and, despite only have two points last week, led the team in assist opportunities with four. I expect him to factor heavily into the offense again on Friday night and he’ll have a little extra motivation against his former team.
I also have a pair of first quarter goal scorer bets. I typically bet a 0.5 unit on these props, but since I expect this game to be lower-scoring, we’re going to go with just 0.2 unit on each of the two I like. Since we’re already on the aforementioned Zawada and his points prop, let’s also bank on one of those points to be a goal in the first period. Bet a 0.2 unit on Josh Zawada 1st Quarter Goal Scorer at +250 on DraftKings. I also like the odds for Pat Kavanagh again this week. We cashed his first quarter goal prop last weekend at +205 odds and we’re getting even better odds for the Denver attackman in this game. Bet a 0.2 unit on Pat Kavanagh 1st Quarter Goal Scorer at +225 on FanDuel.
Picks: Under 22.5, Under 1.5 Two-Point Goals, Blaze Riroden Over 12.5 Saves, Josh Zawada Over 2.5 Points, Josh Zawada 1st Quarter Goal Scorer (0.2 unit), Pat Kavanagh 1st Quarter Goal Scorer (0.2 unit)
California Redwoods at Carolina Chaos Lookahead
As for a lookahead bet in Carolina’s second game, I’m betting Redwoods-Chaos to go Over 21.5 at -105 on FanDuel. Last year’s two games saw just 23 and 18 goals scored, but I liked what I saw from both offenses in Week 1. There’s also a notable trend developing for totals of the second game of a home team’s doubleheader. In the nine homecoming doubleheaders we’ve seen dating back to last season, eight of them have finished with 24 or more total goals and the average total was 26.11.
Even if you aren’t buying this trend, I expect Carolina to have more offensive success against this California defense that still gave up 12 last weekend. I also think the Redwoods should be able to replicate a similar offensive output against a potentially tired Carolina defense.
Pick: Over 21.5
Philadelphia Waterdogs vs. Maryland Whipsnakes

The Mid-Atlantic rivals battle on Friday night with Maryland just a slight favorite. I expect Philly to be better this season and they were much closer to their East counterparts than their record indicated. That said, I’m also high on the Whipsnakes and think they should be favored more than nearly a pick ’em in this game for a few reasons.
First, the faceoff advantage can’t be overlooked. Joe Nardella dominated Mike Sisselberger last weekend and should have similar success against Alec Stathakis. Maryland will obviously need to actually cash in on those possessions of faceoff wins, but I expect that their 32-second offense will be a bit more dialed in that in Week 1.
Meanwhile, Philly is rolling out a close defense that is talented, but will be playing their first full game as a unit. Defensive chemistry takes some time and while I don’t expect it to take long, that’s still an advantage for this Maryland offense. Maryland defender Ajax Zapitello has also had a lot of past success guarding Michael Sowers. I expect a little bit of rust for the Waterdogs in this first game and like the odds to bet Maryland Whipsnakes -1.5 at +125 on Caesars or BetMGM.
While I’m banking on a Whipsnakes win, I do expect big things from rookie Jake Taylor this season. Taylor will get the start on attack and complements Sowers and Kieran McArdle well as an off-ball threat. I expect him to score in his debut and am betting him to do so in the opening frame. Bet a 0.5 unit on Jake Taylor first quarter goal scorer at +162 on FanDuel.
Picks: Maryland Whipsnakes -1.5, Jake Taylor 1Q Goal Scorer (0.5 unit)
