We went 5-2 for +3.7 units on Friday so let’s keep the momentum going for the final two games before the Premier Lacrosse League all-star break. Let’s run down what I’m betting to wrap up PLL Week 5.

The Redwoods host the Philadelphia Waterdogs in California’s second game of the weekend with both teams seeking a bounceback. As good as the Redwoods’ offense has been this season, they’ve struggled at times defending offball threats and are now weaker at short-stick defensive midfield with Chris Merle out. I think Philly’s offense will get the better of this defense and expect them to do enough to not only win, but also cover. I grabbed Phillly on the spread on Friday night at +115, but still lile a bet on Philadelphia Waterdogs -1.5 at +110 on BetMGM or anything plus money elsewhere.
With California’s defensive midfield missing it’s best player, I expect Philly to attack from the midfield early and often and like a pair of first quarter goal scorer bets. We’ll start with Connor Kelly, who has scored a goal in three of his last four games amd despite not shooting too well to start the season, he’s getting plenty of scoring chances. He’s worth a 0.3-unit bet at his current odds. Bet Connor Kelly 1st Quarter Goal Scorer at +175 on DraftKings.
I’m also targeting Philly midfielder Thomas McConvey, who is having a breakout season. McConvey has scored 7 goals in his first 2 games this season, but only one in the nost recent two. I think this is a good buy-low spot on a guy who’s averaging five shots per game and 3.8 shots on goal. He’s also conistently had at least three shots on goal in esch game and I like the odds for him to find the back of the net in the opening 12 minutes. Bet a 0.3 unit on Thomas McConvey 1st Quarter Goal Scorer at +175 on FanDuel.
The third member of the Waterdogs that I’m betting is Jake Taylor. He was held to just one goal last week, but I like this matchup for him and the odds for him to have a pair of goals. He has a shots on goal percentage of 83.3% and Chayse Ierlan is currently only stopping 48.4% of shots. Bet Jake Taylor Over 1.5 Goals at -130 on BetMGM or FanDuel.
Lastly, I’m betting Over 1.5 Two-Point Goals at +130 on DraftKings. Betting two-pointers can be a bit flukey, but I like the stable of long-range shooters that both teams have. California should have Romar Dennis (who scored a two-pointer against Philly last year) active and Charlie Bertrand, Chris Kavanagh and Andrew McAdorey have all showed they can score from deep. Waterdogs also have a two-point threat in Connor Kelly and Jack Hannah has some range despote not pulling up behind the arc often. Ierlan has also struggled a bit saving shots from 15 yards out, allowing one in each of his four games and five total this season. Matt DeLuca is a bit better at defending the two-ball, but allowed one to Dennis last year and Philly in particular has allowed a lot of deep chances in transition under Coach Bill Tierney.
Picks: Philadelphia Waterdogs -1.5, Connor Kelly 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit), Thomas McConvey 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit), Jake Taylor Over 1.5 Goala, Over 1.5 Two-Point Goals

The goalie matchup between Blaze Riorden and Colin Kirst is certainly a reason for a lower total in this game, but I’m not convinced this will stay under 21.5. Boston’s offense is one of the most lethal and versatile in the league and, despite looking stronger on defense now with Jack Kielty back and Owen Grant on the roster, their defense has still been exposed at times and when they do make stops, often converts them into offensive chances in transition. Blaze Riorden hasn’t looked the same since his record-breaking performance in Carolina’s second game and the defense in front of him was allowing him to see point-blank shots left and right against the Whipsnakes. I also think the fledgling, but talented Carolina offense does enough to help get this total Over 21.5 at -120 on BetMGM.
I’m also betting Marcus Holman Over 3.5 Shots On Goal at -160 on DraftKings. Holman hasn’t been shooting as much in year’s past, but has gone over this mark in 19 of his past 27 games and should thrive off-ball against this defense. With Riorden still having the potential to stonewall any offense, I’d rather bet Holman’s SOG prop than points or goals, even at these odds.
Finally, I’m betting Adam Charalambides Under 4.5 Shots On Goal at -130 on DraftKings. Charalambides had a great start to the season, but with Owen Hiltz now in the lineup, Charalambides’ touches (and as a result, shots) could take a hit. We already saw the Chaos attackman finish with noticeably less shots in Hiltz’s debut last week and I think it will be tough for him to reach five shots on goal in this game.
Picks: Over 21.5, Marcus Holman Over 3.5 SOG, Adam Charalambides Under 4.5 SOG
2025 PLL Season Best Bets: 41-36 for +8.77 units
All bets are to win 1 unit or more (i.e. 1.2 units at -120, 1 unit at +120) unless otherwise specified.
