In my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, I discuss why some patience is needed for this revamped Boston Cannons defense. However, Brian Holman’s decision to move Owen Grant down to close defense is one I expect to make an immediate impact. Grant is one of the better cover defenders in the league and should fare well against other teams’ top right-handed attackmen.
He’ll likely match up with Carolina attackman Jackson Eicher in Boston’s season opener and I think Grant will get the best of Eicher on Friday evening. Eicher has recorded four or more points in four of 11 games, so I recommend betting Jackson Eicher Under 3.5 Points at -138 on FanDuel.
As for the Cannons offense, I’m expecting instant success for rookie Mikey Weisshaar. Unfortuntately, no sportsbook is offering rookie of the year odds this week, so the best way to buy stock in Wiesshaar is to bet his points prop. Bet Mikey Weisshaar Over 1.5 Points at +118 on FanDuel.
I’m also betting a 0.3 unit on Asher Nolting to score a 1st quarter goal at +220 on FanDuel. Nolting’s production as a goal-scorer was sveerley lacking last season, but I think the Cannons know that they’re offense is at its best when opposing teams fear him as not just a passer, but also a dodger. Look for Nolting to take his defender to the rack early and often and take a chance on him to score a goal in the opening period. If you expect him to have a big weekend as a whole, I also like getting a small position on Asher Nolting to win 2026 PLL MVP at +3000 on BetMGM.
Picks: Jackson Eicher Under 3.5 Points, Mikey Weisshaar Over 1.5 Points, Asher Nolting 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit)
Maryland Whipsnakes vs. New York ATlas

In my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, I pointed out that the Maryland Whipsnakes have defeated the New York Atlas in three of their last four meetings. New York will still be without Jeff Teat, Trevor Baptiste and Danny Logan, while Maryland is getting back defender Matt Dunn. I love both the spot and the odds and recommend betting 0.6 unit on Maryland Whipsnakes +1.5 at +100 and 0.4 unit on Maryland Whipsnakes moneyline at +140 on Caesars.
As for player props, I’m going back to the well and betting Aidan Carroll Over 1.5 Goals at -120 on FanDuel. Carroll got the start on attack and recorded two goals and two assists in Week 1. With New York preoccupied with Rob Pannell and TJ Malone, I think Carroll could make an impact as a goal scorer again. He had a hat trick in both games against New York last season and scored multiple goals in seven of 11 games in 2025.
I also like betting a full unit on TJ Malone Over 3.5 Points (+114) and a half unit on TJ Malone Over 2.5 Goals (+162) on FanDuel. Malone has often had New York’s number, recording 3+ goals in four games and 4+ points in three games out of his five meetings with the Atlas. With Gavin Adler now out of the picture, I expect Malone to feast again.
Picks: Maryland Whipsnakes +1.5 (0.6 unit), Maryland Whipsnakes ML (0.4 unit), Aidan Carroll Over 1.5 Goals, TJ Malone Over 3.5 Points, TJ Malone Over 2.5 Goals (0.5 unit)
Denver Outlaws vs. California Redwoods

California Moneyline/Spread | -160 / -1.5 |

I laid out why I expect the Denver Outlaws to bounce back this week in my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, making Denver Outlaws moneyline at +130 on Caesars my best bet.
I also predicted that Jared Bernhardt would have a big game and like the odds for his points. I recommend an escalator approach to betting his props with a full unit on Jared Bernhart 3+ Points (+164), 0.3 unit on Jared Bernhart 4+ Points (+350) and 0.15 unit on Jared Bernhart 5+ Points (+680) on FanDuel.
I also recommend a 0.3 unit each on Denver midfielders Graham Bundy Jr. 1st quarter goal scorer (+230) and rookie Evan Plunkett 1st quarter goal scorer (+270) on FanDuel. Plunkett is a dynamic dodger and shooter who should make an immediate impact for the Outlaws. Part of that impact could be freeing up Bundy on offense, so I like a small bet on each to score in the opening quarter.
Picks: Denver Outlaws ML, Jared Bernhart 3+ Points, Jared Bernhart 4+ Points (0.3 unit), Jared Bernhart 5+ Points (0.15 unit), Graham Bundy Jr. 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit), Evan Plunkett 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit)
Philadelphia Waterdogs vs. Boston Cannons
Philadelphia Moneyline/Spread | -140 / -1.5 |
Boston Moneyline/Spread | +110 / +1.5 |
| Total | 23.5 |

Given the injuries to Philly short-stick defensive midfielders Dylan Hess and Matt Whitcher and the question marks surrounding Boston’s defense, I expect this game to be the highest-scoring of the weekend. I like the game to go over 24.5, but recommend betting Over 23.5 at -120 on DraftKings while it’s still available.
In my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, I also discussed how I expect Michael Sowers to once again thrive against Boston. Philly is too deep on offense and the Cannons don’t have a defender who can match Sowers’ speed at the moment. I expect the current MVP favorite to make an impact as both a goal scorer and feeder.
Bet a full unit on Michael Sowers Over 4.5 Points at +114 and a half unit on Michael Sowers Over 2.5 Goals at +144 on FanDuel.
Picks: Over 23.5, Michael Sowers Over 4.5 Points, Michael Sowers Over 2.5 Goals (0.5 unit)
