This is a great buy-low on Denver. A lot of the Pioneers’ issues this season are a result of possession disadvantages caused by poor faceoff play. Their offense hasn’t been efficient enough to make up for the amount of defense they’ve had to play. That said, their defense, which ranks 8th in adjusted defensive efficiency according to Lacrosse Reference, is more than capable of keeping Marquette’s 40th-ranked offense in check even if the Golden Eagles have a notable possession advantage. This Marquette offense was held to just two goals by Providence a couple of weeks ago and only scored once against a comparable Michigan defense.

Denver’s 25th-ranked offense should also be able to score enough to cover against a Marquette defense that ranks 53rd and has struggled against good offenses. There’s also a lot at stake with this game. A loss would cause Denver to drop to 2-3 in the conference and miss the Big East tournament since they would have lost head-to-head to both Marquette and Providence even if the Friars fall to 2-3 as well.

Trust the Pios to be able to get the win and build a big enough lead to cover the 2.5-point spread. Bet Denver -2.5 at -115 on bet365.

Pick: Denver -2.5

This matchup won’t have much effect on the CAA tournament as Delaware is already out at 2-4 and Drexel is in at 4-2. That said, the Dragons can avoid Towson in the first round if they win and Hofstra or Fairfield loses this weekend. Drexel already beat Hofstra and took Fairfield to the wire, so either would be a much better matchup than the CAA defending champion Tigers.

Even if you ignore the motivation factor, I love this spot for Drexel against a Blue Hens team that has been continually overrated this season. Delaware is 4-8 against the spread, including 2-6 as a favorite, which highlights how they’ve underperformed when compared to oddsmakers’ expectations.

If you compare these teams’ advanced stats, the edge swings even further in the Dragons’ favor. Drexel is 27th and 29th in adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency during competitive situations, respectively. Meanwhile, Delaware is 45th and 55th in those some metrics.

While the Blue Hens have enjoyed a faceoff unit that ranks 10th in the nation, Drexel’s 22nd-ranked unit should limit their advantage and is good enough in other facets to overcome a potential possession disadvantage. This Delaware defense is vulnerable and I expect Drexel to have success on Friday night. Bet a 0.8 unit on Drexel +2.5 at +100 on bet265 or DraftKings and 0.2 unit on Drexel moneyline at +230.

Picks: Drexel +2.5 (0.8 unit), Drexel ML (0.2 unit)
