College Lacrosse Betting Picks and Predictions: NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Week 4 Saturday Bets

We started Week 4 in college lacrosse going 2-0 with two wins on Friday and I have two more picks for the Saturday slate. DubClub subscribers and I already bet two units on Georgetown -3.5 earlier in the week before that line moved to as much as -6.5. Let’s take a look at two more favorites I’m backing on Saturday.

Note: The odds presented below are those at the time when Hutton sends his picks out to DubClub subscribers and are subject to change. Johns Hopkins and Virginia are both looking to get back in the win column. While these teams have played each other tight in the past, I think the Blue Jays are better enough to cover against the Cavaliers.

The Hopkins defense has played well this year with their 12-13 loss to North Carolina the only real blemish. Yet, the Tar Heels were opportunistic in transition and scored on a handful of unsettled second-chance situations. This week, they’ll face an underperforming Virginia offense that could be without star attackman McCabe Millon. Even if Millon plays, he could be limited from the lower body injury he suffered at the end of the Ohio State game last week.

Hopkins’ offense should also have enough success to build and maintain a lead. The Blue Jays are 14th in adjusted offensive efficiency excluding garbage time compared to UVA’s 24th rank before the Millon injury. The faceoff battle should be fairly even, but expect Hopkins to be able to make the most of their possessions.

If you didn’t bet it earlier in the week when I gave it out to DubClub subscribers, bet Johns Hopkins -1.5 at -135 on bet365. I’d also still play Hopkins -2 if that’s all you have available.

Pick: Johns Hopkins -1.5

Syracuse at Utah

Syracuse travels to Utah to take on the Utes following a loss to Harvard last week. While it was a disappointing loss (unless you tailed Dan Alexander’s bet on Syracuse to go under their win total) for an Orange team with Final Four aspirations, give credit to a good Crimson team.

In an article earlier this week, I discussed why I’m still betting on this Cuse team to make a deep playoff run. I expect them to bounce back this week with a win over an overrated Utah team.

The Utes’ only win came against Ohio State to open the season but the Buckeyes were uncharacteristically bad on defense that day and didn’t start Caleb Fyock at the time. While they played Delaware, Denver and Vermont close, those are all relatively strong defense teams that play at a slower pace. While Utah likes to play relatively uptempo, I worry about them being able to cover this spread against this fast-paced Syracuse offense that ranks 5th in adjusted offensive efficiency according to Lacrosse Reference.

Utah’s defense is just 39th in adjusted defensive efficiency and Syracuse should be able to play make it, take it thanks to their faceoff advantage. Expect the Syracuse offense to be able to pull away in this game and en-route to a strong victory. Bet Syracuse -4.5 at +100 on FanDuel or -115 on bet365.

Pick: Syracuse -4.5
