National Lacrosse League Betting Picks and Predictions: NLL Week 8 Friday Best Bet

Every National Lacrosse League team is back in action this week, but we only have one game on Friday, featuring the Ottawa Black Bears and Vancouver Warriors. Last week, we went 3-2 to improve to 20-11 for +8.8 units and an ROI of +27.01%. This week I’ll have another handful of bets, starting with one on Friday night.

The Vancouver Warriors travel to Ottawa to take on the Black Bears on Friday night. Ottawa is a 1.5-point favorite at home, but I think the wrong team is favored. Both teams may appear evenly matched on paper, but I Vancouver edges Ottawa in a lot of areas.

Vancouver’s defense has been arguably the best in the league, holding teams to an average of nine goals against. Aden Walsh has exceeded expectations and his 80.9% save percentage is tied for second-best among starters. While Jeff Cornwall being doubtful is notable, this defense is greater than the sum of it’s parts and should still fare fine. They have the ability to disrupt Jeff Teat and the Ottawa offense, that looked disheveled when it played San Diego a couple weeks ago.

The Black Bears are dealing with some injuries, most notably Reilly O’Connor, and while they acquired Eric Fannell this week, I don’t think he’ll replicate O’Connor’s production and impact on that left side. Vancouver’s offense can go toe-to-toe with Ottawa’s and will also likely have a possession advantage thanks to faceoff specialist Alec Stathakis.

You can potentially give Ottawa the edge at goaltender, since Zach Higgins has been great for much longer than Walsh has, but the Black Bears have relied on Higgins to bail them out far too much this season and I expect Vancouver to push in transition and create as many unsettled chances on offense as possible—which Ottawa has had trouble defending lately.

My power ratings make Vancouver a -145 favorite against Ottawa, so +120 on bet365 is a great price to bet the Warriors to win outright. And if you want to bet this team long-term, I also recommend betting their title odds at +2000 on Bet Rivers or BetMGM.

Pick: Vancouver Warriors ML
