The weekend starts with a matchup with major implications on the Western Conference playoff race. The Redwoods are back in action after a bye week and take on the Chaos, who now have the same number of wins as California. Last time these teams faced, it took overtime, and I expect this game to be close as well. I give the slight edge to California with Carolina’s Justin Inacio and Jack Rowlett both being out this time around, but not enough to bet a side. I also think the total is appropriately set at 24.5. Instead, I’m betting the 1st Half Under 12.5 (-115) and 0.6 unit on the 1st Quarter Under 6.5 (-120) on FanDuel. I think both goalies will play well early on and think these totals are a tad too high for the opening quarter and half.
As for player props, I’m betting another Blaze Riorden saves escalator. Carolina’s decision to not pick up a faceoff specialist to replace Inacio means TD Ierlan and the Redwoods should win plenty of faceoffs and they’ve played well in the 32-second shot clock. I expect them to get plenty of shots on net against Riorden, but trust him to make enough saves to go over most of his saves props. When these teams last faced, Riorden made 15 saves and we cash all but one of our saves props. I like the odds to bet Blaze again and recommend betting to win a full unit (1.28 unit) on Blaze Riorden 12+ Saves (-128), a full unit on 13+ Saves (+102), a half unit on 14+ Saves (+134), and a 0.3 unit on 15+ Saves (+178) on FanDuel.
As for some other player props, I’m betting a 0.3 unit on Sam English 1st Quarter Goal at +290 on FanDuel. English has been excellent off the faceoff wing and in the 32-second shot clock. He had the first hat trick of his career when these teams last met, and I expect him to be able to get some shots on net early in the game. I recommend betting his 1st quarter goal scorer odds with the hopes that one of those shots goes in.
As for Carolina, I’m betting Owen Hiltz Under 2.5 Points at +120 on FanDuel. Kyle Hartzell is back in the lineup and held Hiltz to just 1-for-6 shooting when these teams last met. Chris Fake is also back in the lineup, which should bolster California’s defense even more. Hiltz has had two points or fewer in five of seven games this season, so I love the odds for him to stay under this mark again on Friday.
A Carolina player I am expecting to have a good game is Ross Scott. Scott has been hot and cold, but had a season-high 3 goals and 4 points against the Redwoods when they last played. With Eric Spanos out of the lineup, Scott will likely spend some time at attack as well, and I think Carolina will rely heavily on his speed to generate offense. Bet to win a unit on Ross Scott Over 1.5 Points at -120 on BetMGM and a half unit on Ross Scott Over 1.5 Goals at +150 on BetMGM or DraftKings.)

The best defense faces the best offense on Friday night with the Utah Archers taking on the Boston Cannons. The Archers are looking to hold their seventh different opponent to under 10 goals this season, while the Cannons are looking to score 10 or more for the 10th time this year. I think the Utah defense will prevail and expect the Archers to win by a margin. Their defense is too strong and should be able to outphysical Boston’s offense. Both teams also like to attack in transition, and Utah should be able to beat Boston in its own game if this game turns into a track meet. Bet the Utah Archers -1.5 at +100 on BetMGM, BetRivers or FanDuel. I also like the odds for the 1st Half Under 12.5 at +115 on BetMGM based on this Utah defense.
As for player props, I’m betting a Brett Dobson saves escalator this weekend. Boston leads the league in shots (44.4) and shots on goal (28.6) so Dobson should see a high volume of shots, but I trust him to make enough saves. Bet 1.2 unit on Brett Dobson 12+ Saves (-120), a full unit on 13+ Saves (+108), a half unit on 14+ Saves (+142), 0.3 unit on 15+ Saves (+188) and 0.1 unit on Dobson 16+ Saves (+255) on FanDuel
I also recommend betting Coulter Mackesy Under 2.5 Points at -115 on DraftKings. Mackesy will likely match up with defensive player of the year candidate Brendan Lavelle, and I think he’ll be limited on the stat sheet. Trust this Archers defense to keep him in check.
