We had another solid week betting the National Lacrosse League as the regular season approaches its end. The Vancouver Warriors and Toronto Rock are headed in opposite directions, with Vancouver winning four straight since trading for starting goalie Christian Del Bianco. Meanwhile, Toronto sits at 5-10 and their playoff hopes are all but gone. When these teams last played, the Warriors won 13-8 and I expect a similar if not even more lopsided result on Friday night.
Vancouver got the better of Toronto even with the Rock having Tom Schreiber and TD Ierlan in the lineup. Schreiber hasn’t played since these teams’ last meeting and will miss his third straight game. Additionally, Ierlan is listed as doubtful and Brian Cameron and Robert Hudson are both questionable. While Toronto still has some big name players active, keeping it close will be a tall task against the league’s best defense.
The Warriors are first in defensive efficiency, allowing an average of just 9.951 goals per 85 possessions (the average number of possessions per game). They’ve been even better with Del Bianco starting, allowing just 9.25 goals per game. The Vancouver Warriors offense deserves some credit as well, averaging 12.75 goals per game during their four-game win streak.
