After a league-wide bye week, the Premier Lacrosse League travels to Long Island for Week 5. You can read my article on USA Lacrosse Magazine for the key storylines and players to watch ahead of this weekend. In the meantime, let’s dive further into each matchup from a betting perspective and look at my favorite game picks and player props for PLL Week 5…

In my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, I discussed how important this game is for both the Atlas and Cannons, as well as the key injuries to New York’s Trevor Baptiste and Boston’s Matt Campbell. I think these teams are fairly evenly matched, so am passing on the spread. I also think we could see a lot of goals, but 25.5 feels right. Instead, I’m targeting some player props.
Connor Shellenberger has only nine points through four games, but I think Friday he could break out of his slump. He only has 5 assists, but is second in the league with 23 assist opportunities. With Bryan Costabile and Matt Traynor back in the lineup, I expect to see a better showing from the offense this weekend. Bet Connor Shellenberger Over 1.5 Assists at -115 on DraftKings, Connor Shellenberger 4+ Points at -108 on FanDuel and a half unit on Connor Shellenberger 5+ Points at +164 on FanDuel.
I also think Shellenberger’s linemate Xander Dickson will have a productive outing against this Boston defense. Dickson has had multiple goals in 17 of his last 26 games and a hat trick in 13 of those games, excluding the 2025 PLL Championship when he scored just one goal before injuring his ankle. Bet a full unit on Xander Dickson 2+ Goals at -142 and a half unit on Xander Dickson 3+ Goals at +186 on FanDuel.
Finally, I’m betting Boston midfielder Mikey Weisshaar Over 1.5 Points at -130 on FanDuel. Weisshaar has been steadily getting more involved, recording two points on a career-high 30 touches last game. Expect him to record a pair of points on Friday.
Picks: Connor Shellenberger Over 1.5 Assists, Connor Shellenberger 4+ Points, Connor Shellenberger 5+ Points (0.5 unit), Xander Dickson 2+ Goals, Xander Dickson 3+ Goals (0.5 unit), Mikey Weisshaar Over 1.5 Points

In my USA Lacrosse Magazine preview, I discussed the two key injuries for California. Cole Kastner is on the PUP list and will miss his third straight game, while Chris Fake was moved to the injured reserve after suffering an injury in week four. As good as rookie Cullen Brown played in his first game, the defensive injuries for the Redwoods are significant. California will roll out a new close defense trio of Chris Conlin, Brown and Matt Wright, with the latter making his PLL debut. As good as Dillon Ward has been this year, I expect Utah to take advantage and come away with the outright win. Bet Utah Archers moneyline at +120 on BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings or TheScore Bet.
I also explained why I expect Connor Fields to benefit the most from California’s personnel changes. Fake played a large role in holding Fields to just one point when these teams met in Week 1 and I expect Fields to take adavantage of his absence. Bet Connor Fields Over 2.5 Points at +136, Connor Fields Over 1.5 Goals at +102 and a half unit on Connor Fields 1st quarter goal scorer at +140 on FanDuel.
I’m also betting on a few other Archers to have strong games. Given California’s defensive absences, I also recommend a 0.3 unit on Sam King 1st quarter goal scorer at +220 on FanDuel. Tre Leclaire made a big impact in his return to the lineup and I think he could have another successful outing against California. He can find success as a passer or goal-scorer and could easily go over his points prop on one shot given his two-point range. Bet Tre Leclaire Over 1.5 Points at -113 on FanDuel. While most of Mac O’Keefe’s props are overjuiced, I like his odds to score from beyond the arc against Ward, who struggles to defend the two-pointer. Bet 0.1 unit on Mac O’Keefe to score a two-point goal at +560 on FanDuel.
Picks: Utah Archers ML, Connor Fields Over 2.5 Points, Connor Fields Over 1.5 Goals, Connor Fields 1Q Goal Scorer (0.5 unit)
Maryland Whipsnakes at New York Atlas

New York Moneyline/Spread | +100 / +1.5 |

I gave out Maryland Whipsnakes -1.5 at +114 on DraftKings in my USA Lacrosse magazine preview for a few reasons. I think we could see the New York offense makes some strides on Friday, but I don’t think they’ll be able to have the same level of production against this staunch Whipsnakes defense. The youth movement in Maryland is in full effect on both offense and defense. Opponents are shooting just 9.1% (2-for-22) when rookie short-stick defensive middies Joe Juengerkes, Blake Eiland or Eric Kolar are the closest defender.
Offensively, Joey Spallina made an immediate impact on attack and should help pick apart a New York defense that is allowing the third-most scores and is forcing goalie Liam Entenmann see far too many shots on goal. When these teams last met, Maryland doubled up New York. Since then, the Whipsnakes have only gotten better, while the Atlas are still looking for answers. I also recommend betting a half unit on the alternate spread of Maryland Whipsnakes -2.5 at +134 on FanDuel.
I discussed Spallina’s impact heavily in my power rankings article for USA Lacrosse magazine and explained why I think now is the best time to bet Joey Spallina to win PLL rookie of the year even at odds no longer than +150 (bet365.) As for this weekend, I recommend betting Joey Spallina Over 1.5 Assists at +125 on DraftKings, Joey Spallina 3+ Points at -106 on FanDuel and a half unit on Joey Spallina 4+ Points at +196 on FanDuel.
I’m also expecting a big things out of his linemat TJ Malone. New York has held Malone in check in his last two games against the Atlas. Yet, I think Spallina has further unlocked this offense and we’ll see Malone have a big game like he had in the four prior matchups with the Atlas. Bet TJ Malone 2+ Goals at +102, TJ Malone 3+ Points at +108, a half unit on TJ Malone 4+ Points at +230 and a 0.3 unit on TJ Malone 1st Quarter Goal Scorer at +150 on FanDuel.
Picks: Maryland Whipsnakes -1.5, Maryland Whipsnakes -2.5 (0.5 unit), Joey Spallina Over 1.5 Assists, Joey Spallina 3+ Points, Joey Spallina 4+ Points (0.5 unit), TJ Malone 2+ Goals, TJ Malone 3+ Points, TJ Malone 4+ Points (0.5 unit), TJ Malone 1Q Goal Scorer (0.3 unit)
